The RoseCraft Blades Beaver Creek Barlow Smoky Gray features a 2.9″ D2 Sheepsfoot blade with a brushed satin finish. It’s 2.7mm thick and has a half stop. The one-bladed traditional slip joint features brushed steel bolsters with the Locking ‘RC’ mark and steel liners. The covers are genuine Smoky Gray Bone. It’s 3.5″ closed, 6.4″ overall, and weighs 2.9oz. Designed by Andy Armstrong.
A note about RoseCraft’s bone handles: Bone is a natural handle material that varies in texture, pattern, and natural coloring. Every bone handled knife will look different, because bone isn’t identical. At RoseCraft, we don’t use dye to cover up what we think is the natural beauty of the bone in the handle. We use it to accentuate that natural beauty, and you’re going to see a lot of that gorgeous natural texture and pattern that is in your unique bone-handled knife. We love it, and hope you do too.

The barlow is a great traditional pattern and RCB’s version is awesome. The sheepsfoot is a working blade suited to many tasks , carving and slicing especially. The D2 steel is a perfect choice as it holds an edge well, but not too difficult to sharpen with whettstones. The gray bone covers look great, I did do a little modding on one of mine, just for fun. the action on mine is perfect with an even pull and just enough snap. I’m very pleased with the pattern and have a few of the orange covers as well.

Great steel choice for this style of knife in the budget territory – with a quality, consistent heat treat this brand always has is just one of the many qualities I’ve come to appreciate. The full flat grind makes cuts consistent all the way through, though I’d love to see a full hollow for their traditionals. This knife is part of my PJ carry & there’s just something about it that whispers ‘hot cocoa on the couch, on an off day’.
I do wish the traditionals would be changed from having the stop pin land in the sharpening choil to landing behind the blade tang, as that kind of defeats the point of the stop pin stopping blade wrap if I just introduce it myself once I sharpen the knife enough. Can’t really add a proper sharpening choil because of this. I also wish the pull was slightly more stout as it would be more enjoyable. How they are now they are completely functional, so it’s not a deal breaker for me. The half stop on every model is very appreciated, as I believe you’re supposed to use the nail nick to half then reorient to pinching the blade to open & half stops help a lot of the safety & consistency of that.

Thanks for offering your opinion about the Beaver Creek Barlow. We’re glad you love it, and we absolutely appreciate you bringing your concerns to our attention. We’ve not had a single complaint about “blade rap” with any of our patterns. In fact, we made sure that that wasn’t an issue for our knives, because we’d seen it in so many production knives in the past – so it was a little surprising to see your concerns about the placement of the stop pin and blade rap. Thanks for bringing your concern to our attention.
