What is a Second?
In general, Seconds have a “look” or “feel” that is not in line with First Quality. It will have one or more of the following imperfections: discoloration or wide variation in the handle dye, imperfect jigging, small cracks or fractures near pins, minor blade/bolster/shield imperfections like scratches or poor polish, minor blade wobble, weak or “mushy” blade stops, light pull between stops, poor blade centering (without rub), minor gapping in liners or between handle material and liners, and rough or unfinished edges or transition. Imperfections vary widely and you may or may not be able to find the imperfection that we found in QC.
The RoseCraft Blades Elk River Easy Open Jack is a one-bladed pattern that features a 2.75” D2 lambsfoot blade with a brushed satin finish, a half-stop and heavy swedging. It has blue denim Micarta covers with brushed stainless steel bolsters, liners, and nickel silver pins. It carries the “Armstrong Skull” shield and features an “easy open” slot to pinch and pull the blade open. It’s 3.5” closed, 6.25” overall, and weighs just 2.3oz. This pattern was inspired by a very old I-X-L pattern and re-imagined by Andy Armstrong.
