This item is “Second Quality” with one or more imperfections. This item is not “First Quality” and is sold at a discounted rate, because it does not meet our “First Quality” standard. The item pictured is an example of this pattern, NOT an image of the particular knife you will receive. While the item you receive will function as safely as any First Quality knife, it is ideal as a “user” or “tinkerer” not a collectible and is sold “as-is” with no return or refund after purchase. To deter secondary markets from selling this knife at First Quality pricing, this item is marked on the pile side tang, as are all Second Quality knives after March 1, 2024.

For your convenience, we have divided our Seconds into two categories: Cosmetic and Mechanical. Each category has different stock levels and prices. You may choose which category you’d like to buy from below.

What is a Cosmetic Second?

In general, Cosmetic Seconds have a “look” that is not in line with First Quality. It will have one or more of the following imperfections: discoloration or wide variation in the handle dye, imperfect jigging, small cracks or fractures near pins, and minor blade/bolster/shield imperfections like scratches or poor polish. Please note that Cosmetic Seconds will not have Mechanical imperfections.

What is a Mechanical Second?

In general, a Mechanical Second has a “feel” that is not First Quality, though it has not lost its purpose or function. A Mechanical Second will have one or more of the following imperfections: minor blade wobble, weak or “mushy” blade stops, light pull between stops, poor blade centering (without rub), minor gapping in liners or between handle material and liners, and rough or unfinished edges or transition. Please note that Mechanical Seconds may also have Cosmetic imperfections.

The RoseCraft Blades French Broad Jack features a 3″ D2 Wharncliffe blade with a brushed satin finish. It’s 2.7mm thick and has a half stop. This one-bladed traditional slip joint features brushed steel bolsters, steel liners, and a steel shield. The covers are genuine Red Apple Bone. It’s 3.875″ closed, 6.8″ overall, and weighs 2.5oz. Based on a traditional pattern re-imagined by Andy Armstrong.

Note: Bone is a natural material and each handle will hold dye differently. While your knife will look similar to the knife in the images, it will vary based on the makeup of the genuine bone in your knife.
